Market demand for micro HDD (Hard Disk Drive) shot up recently due to wider adoption by mobile handset makers and the popularity of HDD MP3 players such as iPod. Hitachi Global Storage estimates that by 2008, 10%, or 80 million units, of overall HDD sales volume will be applied to mobile phones, while HDD MP3 players sales is anticipated to reach 54.1 million units by year 2010. The world's largest HDD maker, Seagate, projects that in two to four year's time, 30% of all mobile phones on the market will adopt the HDD storage device.
